Herald Coaster, March 6, 2002: Funeral services for Eleanor Sliva, 94, of East Bernard, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 7, 2002, at Guardian Angel Catholic Church in Wallis, with the Rev. Richard Johnston, S.C.J., celebrating the funeral mass and Rite of Committal. Entombment will follow in the Guardian Angel Cemetery Mausoleum in Wallis. Mrs. Sliva was born Jan. 15, 1908 in Wallis to August Rohan and Albina Pustejovsky Rohan, and she died Tuesday, March 5, 2002, in Wharton. Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons, Jason Sliva, Ronnie Sliva, Kenneth Sliva, Joe Rachunek, Phillip Rachunek, and Bobby Svoboda. Mrs. Sliva was reared in the Wallis area and attended Catholic school there. On Oct. 16, 1933, she married Herman Sliva at Guardian Angel Catholic Church, where she was a life-time member, as well as a member of the K.J.Z.T. Mrs. Sliva and her husband farmed in the Wallis and East Bernard area all of their lives. She will always be remembered for the joy she found in tending her flowers and garden and in baking various delights for her family and friends. She is survived by her children, Roman Sliva and his wife, Georgie, of East Bernard, Nelva Carson and her husband, Robert, of Sugar Land, Georgia Butler and her husband, Willie, of Sweeny, Delbert Sliva of East Bernard, and Ben Sliva and his wife, Mary Ann, of Richmond; 14 grandchildren, Ronnie Sliva and Debbie Sliva Zapalac of East Bernard, Kenneth Sliva of Inez, Sharon Sliva Svoboda of Sealy, Robert Carson of Sugar Land, Clinton Carson of Downer's Grove, Ill., Sandra Carson Winkel of Rockwall, Joe Rachunek, Phillip Rachunek, Jeffrey Rachunek, and Eric Rachunek of Sweeny, Jason Sliva and Bradford Sliva of Richmond, and Chad Sliva of Washington, D.C.; 23 great-grandchildren; a sister, Henrietta Bogar and her husband, Bill, of Bellville; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mrs. Sliva was preceded in death by Herman Sliva, her husband of 67 years; her parents; and brothers, Frank, Alfonse, Sylvester, and Benjamin Rohan. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. with a rosary beginning at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 6, 2002, at Knesek Funeral Chapels, 122 North FM 109, Wallis, Texas 77485.
