Roman Sliva, 90, of East Bernard, entered peacefully into the presence of his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, January 28, 2025. He was born August 22, 1934 in East Bernard to the late Herman Sliva and Eleanor Rohan Sliva. Loved ones left to cherish his memory, sister, Nelva Carson of Richmond; sister, Georgia Butler and husband, Willy, of Sweeny; brother, Ben Sliva and wife, MaryAnn, of Richmond; son, Ronnie Sliva of East Bernard; son, Kenneth Sliva and wife, Donna, of Inez; daughter, Sharon Svoboda and husband, Robert, of Sealy; daughter, Debbie Zapalac and husband, Elvis, of East Bernard; his eight grandchildren, Christine Mikolajczyk and husband, Paul, Dustin Sliva and wife, Tara, Ashley Cranley and husband, Matt, Wesley Sliva, Claudia Zapalac, Cheyenne Sliva, Elijah Zapalac, Emma Zapalac; and great-grandchildren, Paul Mikolajczyk and James Cranley; and numerous cousins nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 years, Georgie; his parents, Herman and Eleanor Sliva; brother, Delbert Sliva; and brother-in-law, Robert W. Carson. Roman grew up on the family farm, attending his early years of school at Bernard Prairie only a short walk from home. He graduated from East Bernard High School in 1953. Roman enlisted in the United States Army in 1954, serving his country in Korea until 1956. Upon his return, he started work with WKM, later Cooper Cameron. While attending mass at Holy Cross Catholic Church in East Bernard December of 1959, he saw the love of his life, saying to his brother Ben, "I'm going to marry that girl". In July of 1960, Georgie and Roman were married. Roman continued work at both WKM and the family farm, retiring from WKM in 1994 and continuing to farm until 2001. He worked at Wharton County Precinct No.2 for the next 5 years. Roman filled the extra time with family, taking numerous fishing trips to the coast, enjoying family celebrations, BBQs, and time with his grandkids. He was happiest watching the family be together. Roman belonged to Holy Cross Catholic Parish in East Bernard and was a member of KJT of East Bernard. The family would like to thank all of Roman's healthcare providers and express gratitude for the love and support from family and friends. Roman was a hard-working family man that loved to laugh. He will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him. Our family would like to welcome you to Roman's visitation at Holy Cross Catholic Church in East Bernard on February 5, 2025 at 8:00 am, rosary at 9:30 am, and funeral mass at 10:00 am. Roman will be laid to rest at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery. Refreshments will follow immediately after the burial at Holy Cross meeting room. Serving as pallbearers are Ronnie and Dustin Sliva, Kenneth and Wesley Sliva, Elvis and Elijah Zapalac. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Holy Cross Catholic Church Cemetery Fund or a charity of your choice.
