11 Jan 2023 Note: this memorial was incorrectly connected to the Gaunt family in Oct. 2019 by suggestion from Dave C. upon finding obit it was corrected to correct parents. It appears Marie was born Mary and was called Mattie in at least one census. Father Richard listed on Texas birth certificate for Mary. ~~ MARIE EDWARDS: Homemaker Graveside services for Marie G. Edwards were held in the Yampa Cemetery at 1 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 21, 1981. Officiating was the Rev. Dean Shepard. The Rev. Joe Petersen sang How Great Thou Art. Pallbearers included Billy Milner, Floyd and Hale Viele, Joe Willcockson, Leonard Snowden and Charles Sweetland. Mrs. Edwards passed away at the age of 68 at her home in Yampa on Nov. 19. Born in Caldwell, Texas on Sept. 12, 1913, she was the daughter of John and Rosie Urban Gaas. She married Vernon Edwards in Boulder County on Oct. 3, 1935. He preceded her in death. She came to Routt County in 1963 and was a member of the Royal Neighbors of America. Surviving are one son, Donald Edwards of Lakewood; one daughter, Shirley Meade of Yampa; two brothers, Frank Gaas of Calwell, Texas and Richard Gass of Byron, Texas; three sisters, Emilic Crick and Frances Carnza, both of Caldwell and Ann Sherlock of Arvada; three halfbrothers, J.D. Gaas and Milton Gaas, both of Caldwell and Anthony Gaas of Austin, Texas; one half-sister, Matilda Kachnrek of Caldwell; her stepmother, Mary Gaas of Caldwell; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
