Bio
Amanda Florence VanHook, Clement Avenue, Somerset, died Friday, June 23 at Humana Hospital Lake Cumberland following an illness of two weeks. She was born in Ruth on December 9, 1901, the daughter of the late Lee Alexander and Martha Wright. She was a member of First Baptist Church. Survivors include three sons, Howard VanHook, Houston, Texas, Joe VanHook, Madisonville, and Ed VanHook, Lexington; two daughters, Virginia Eastham and Lois Ann Combs, both of Somerset; one brother, Lester Alexander, Ruth; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William Hobart VanHook, whom she married at Ruth in 1919; one son, Carl VanHook; two brothers; and five sisters. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 27, at 11 a.m. at the chapel of Somerset Undertaking Company with the Rev. Roy Alexander and Dr. Robert Browning officiating. Burial will be in Lakeside Memorial Gardens. Visitation is after 5 p.m. tomorrow at Somerset Undertaking Company.
