William Elbert Alexander, 84, of Route 6, in the Ruth community, died Sunday, December 31, at his residence after a long illness. Born in Pulaski County on April 14, 1894, he was the son of the former Martha Wright and Leander Alexander, both of whom are deceased. He married the former Carlie Hines in Somerset on August 23, 1915, and she survives. Other survivors include six children, Mrs. Sam (Edna) Cox, Mrs. Edward (Essie) Ping, Mrs. Coy (Lucille) Bolton, Mrs. Charles (Ruth) Smiley, Mrs. John (Veria) Mize, and Mrs. Howard (Betty) Phelps; one brother, Lester Alexander, Somerset; three sisters, Mrs. Pearl Warren, Mrs. Elizabeth Estep, and Amanda VanHook; 16 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. He was a retired merchant and farmer, and a member of East Somerset Baptist Church. Funeral will be Wednesday, January 3, at the East Somerset Baptist Church with Brothers Dale Adkins and S.L. Sears officiating. Burial will be in Clay Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit after 5 p.m. today at the Pulaski Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.
