This was recorded in the Free Press Standard, Carrollton, Ohio, Thursday, June 1949. A picnic dinner was held in the Community Hall in Lamartine, Sunday, June 5, honoring Mrs. Violetta Davis, who was celebrating her 80th birthday and is the oldest resident of Lamartine. A beautifully decorated cake, used as the center piece on the dinner table was presented by her oldest granddaughter. Mrs. William Manbeck of Scio. Thirty-three relatives and friends were present including eight children, nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A cousin, Mrs. Celia Hagey of Bowerston, who is 84 years old, was the oldest guest. Her obituary in the Free Press Standard, Carrollton, Ohio, Thursday, January 9, 1964. Mrs. Violetta Jane Davis, 94, formerly of Perrysville, died Sunday at Carroll County Hospital. She had been in Failing health for three years. Born June 2, 1869, in Perry Twp., she was a daughter of the late James and Jane (Walters) Slates and was a life resident of Carroll County. Mrs. Davis was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church at Kilgore. She was married January 30, 1886, to Robert Davis, who died November 4, 1943. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Josie Westfall, Mrs. Mae Burrier and Mrs. Viola Grimes, all of Carrollton; three sons, Merton of Bradenton, Florida, Fred of Steubenville and Robert of Perrysville; 27 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by six sons, an infant daughter, three brothers and two sisters. Services were Wednesday at the Allmon Funeral Home here with Rev. C. M. Hollensen officiating. Burial was in the Kilgore Cemetery.
