Bridgeport ~ James L. "Pop" Dixon, Jr, 90, a retiree from Braniff Airways, went to be with our Lord Tuesday, February 14, 2012 in Bridgeport. Funeral is 2 p.m. Friday, February 17, 2012 at the First Baptist Church in Bridgeport with burial in East Bridgeport Cemetery. Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Hawkins Funeral Home in Bridgeport. Dr. David Burrows will officiate. Pallbearers are Price Dixon, Larry Price, R.L. Price, Buck Stevenson, Raby Hawkins, Jack Shockey, Rob Hawkins, Brant Hawkins, Ray Lasiter, Charlie Lasiter, Trey Hawkins, Chase Hawkins. Pop was born on December 21, 1921 to James Sr. and Stella (Wilson) Dixon in Waxahachie, Texas. He attended Texas Tech for one year. Pop served his country in the U.S. Marines as a First Lieutenant fighter pilot. He met Jane Price in the fourth grade and they were later united in marriage on November 24, 1943 in Pensacola, Florida. Pop was a retired director of technical training from Braniff Airways and a member of First Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Luther Dixon, Sr. and Stella Phillips; his stepmother, Elsie Dixon; his stepfather, Clint Phillips; his brothers, Bill and Byron Phillips; and his sisters, Elaine Ellis and Leta Howard. Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 68 years, Jane Price Dixon of Bridgeport; his son, James L. "Dickie" Dixon III and wife Wanda of Bridgeport; his grandchildren, Price Dixon of Dallas, Rob Hawkins and Von of Bridgeport, Brant Hawkins and Stacey of Bridgeport; his sister, Anita Kirby of Dallas; his great grandchildren, Trey, Chase, Tiffany, and Raby; his great great grandchildren, Camryn, Hollyn, and Carter; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
