Bio

From The Colfax County Press, Thursday, October 6, 1927, page 1, transcribed by Linda Berney: Death Claims Pioneer Clarkson Settler - Following a long illness due to various complications, death came to Vincent Urban, Sr. early Saturday morning, at his family home in the west part of Clarkson. Mr. Urban had been suffering for many months and although the best of medical attention was given him, all efforts to prolong his life's journey proved futile. For several weeks it was evident that his vitality was rapidly diminishing and consequently it became apparent that the inevitable could not be averted. The deceased was born in Bystrice, above Orlice, state of Chrudim, Bohemia, on the 6th day of January 1861, having attained the age of sixty-six years of age. When a young man of about 18 years, he came to America and located in this vicinity, having made his home here for almost a half century. After a few years of residence here he was united in marriage to Frances Stodola and for many years Mr. and Mrs. Urban made their home on a farm eight miles south of Clarkson, now in the possession of their son, Joseph. Feeling the burden of many years of toil upon themselves, Mr. and Mrs. Urban left the farm nine years ago and moved to Clarkson. Here they lived in contentment, enjoying the fruits of their long toil until sickness made its debut in the home. Mr. Urban was a quiet and law-abiding man and through these virtues won the sincere esteem of all his fellow citizens....[funeral details]... Besides the widow, Mr. Urban is survived by one daughter, Frances, wife of Frank S. Novotny, and two sons, Vincent and Joseph, both of whom own fine farms in the vicinity of Clarkson and Leigh. One daughter, Mrs. Adolph Cinfel, preceded her father in death ten years ago. In addition to his own family he also leaves four sisters, Mrs. Agnes Jonas and Miss Justyna Urban of Clarkson; Mrs. Marie Daniel of Crete; and Mrs. Albina Seibert of Edmonds, No. Dakota. One sister, Anna Daniel, and a brother, Joseph Urban, preceded him in death a few years ago.
