Bio

"George Sidney Coats, aged 90, of Kirkwood, died Sunday at 12:05 p.m. at the Community Memorial Hospital. Born December 11, 1877, at Mammoth Cave, Ky., he was the son of Sam B. and Emily (Kelly) Coats, was reared and educated in Kentucky, and was married to Eva Holton September 13, 1909, at Benton, M. As a boy, Mr. Coats drove a yoke of oxen and worked with loggers. A resident of Warren County 51 years, he had worked as a farm hand. He was a member of United Brethren faith. Survivors include Mrs. Coats, two daughters, Mrs. William (Verda) Bruning of Galesburg and Mrs. S. W. (Dorothy) Uehling of Garden Grove, Calif., a son, Everett Coats of Galena, two grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, a brother, Henry Coats of Davenport, IA., and several nieces and nephews. Two sisters and one brother preceded him in death. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 2 .m. at the Holliday and Hoover Memorial Chapel in charge of Rev. Howard Fisher of the Kirkwood United Methodist church. Burial will take place in Center Grove cemetery at Kirkwood. The family will receive visitors at the Holliday and Hoover Memorial Chapel from 7:30 p.m. until 8:30 tonight." Source: Gwen Hobbs
