Bio

Source: Montgomery Messenger May 2, 1924 Mrs. Barbara Beran, one of the beloved women of our city, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Albert Janovsky, in this city, at two o'clock last Sunday morning following an illness of long duration. For over a year she had been failing in health due to an attack of asthma and for the past two months, she was in a serious condition and was obliged to remain in bed. The deceased, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Stepanek, was born in Sedlov, bohemia on March 20th, 1834. She grew to womanhood in her native country and on May 18th, 1851 was united in marriage to John Beran in Bohemia and they continued to reside there until 1866, when they came to America to make their home, and settled on a farm near Madison Lake, in Blue Earth country. In the year 1882 they left the farm and moved to Le Sueur Center, where they lived until 1896, when they came to this city to spend their reclining years. On July 5, 1913 Mr. Beran was called by death and since that time Mrs. Beran made her home with her daughter. The deceased was a mother of a large and gifted family, many of whom now have "silver threads among the gold," as a reminder that they, too, are nearing life's sunset. She ran the journey of life in ninety years. It is a path marked with deeds of kindness and cheer and by them she won the respect of both young and old. The funeral was held from the church of the Holy Redeemer in this city at ten o'clock on Monday morning. Rev Emil Polasek conducted the services and entoned a requiem high mass. The interment was in the family lot in Calvary cemetery. The pallbearers were Frank and Joseph Galler, Benny Beran, and John, Louis, and Joseph Janovsky, all grandsons of the deceased. She is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Mary Danberry, of Cumberland, Wis., Mrs. Antonia Prochaska, of Brook Park, Minn., Mrs. Kate Galler, of Elysian, Mrs. Louise Dworak, of Longmont, Colo., and Mrs. Anna Janovsky, of this city, and three sons, Frank Beran, of Ord, Neb., Anton Beran, of Wheatland, Wyoming, and Joseph Beran of Elysian. Forty-eight grandchildren and fifty-one great-grandchildren also survive. Two sons, John and Louis preceded her to their graves.
