Frank Beran, 90, Called by Death Thursday Morning Resident of County Half a Century; Farmed 30 Years Funeral services were held from the Hastings-Pearson Chapel Monday afternoon for Frank Beran who passed away suddenly in his home Thursday evening from a heart attack. Rev. Jeppesen officiated. Burial was made in the Ord city cemetery. Mr. Beran attained the age of 89 years, 8 months and 19 days. He was born in Czechoslovakia on June 9, 1863. He came to America with his parents when he was two years of age and the family settled in Montgomery, Minn. He was married to Miss Mary Murray at Montgomery on August 8, 1892 and soon after the wedding Mr. and Mrs. Beran came to Valley county, where they lived for over a half century. Their first home was a farm two miles north of Ord. To this union were born three children. Martin and Stephen of Ord and Mayme Whipps of Yakima, Wash. In 1927 Mr. and Mrs. Beran retired from the farm and moved to Ord where Mrs. Beran passed away on Sept. 17, 1946. Besides his wife he was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, four brothers and one great grandson. Left to mourn him besides his three children are three sisters, Mrs. Kate Galler of Madison Lake, Minn.; Mrs. Antonia Prochaska of Pine City, Minn.; Mrs. Louise Dworak of Longmont, Colo., four grandchildren and many relatives and friends. The hardships of pioneering were well known to Mr. and Mrs. Beran. The hard work of many like them converted Valley county from an expanse of raw prairie to a settled community.
