Source: Montgomery Messenger Published: July 11, 1913 OCTOGENARIAN CALLED HOME John Beran, a Highly Respected Citizen Passed Peacefully Away at His Home, Saturday Afternoon, July 5, 1913. Another well-known and highly respected pioneer of the early past century passed away in the person of John Beran, who died at his home in this city last Saturday at 1:30 P.M., the cause of his death being due to tumor. The aged man was born in Bohemia, Oct. 20, 1830, and came to this country forty-seven years ago, settling on a farm in Blue Earth county, then removed near LeSueur Center, where he resided for fourteen years. He came here seventeen years ago, and has made his home in this city ever since. He was married on May 18, 1851, in Bohemia, to his surviving wife. John Beran was well known by many people in and around this city. In his life he was quiet, a very good-natured man, and as a farmer he industriously toiled and successfully accomplished his undertakings. His departure from this world will be a sad loss to all who knew him, as well as the surviving relatives. Besides his surviving wife, he leaves to mourn nine children – 5 daughters and 4 sons; Mrs. Wm. Danberry and Mrs. Joseph Galler of Madison Lake; Mrs. Albert Janovsky of Montgomery Township; Mrs. Anton Dvorak of Longmount, Colorado; Mrs. Mathias Prochaska of Pine City; sons, Frank and John of Ord, Nebraska, Joseph, of Elysian and Anton of Wheatland, Wyoming. One son died in Denver, Colorado, last September. A fact worthy to mention is that 49 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren also survive him. The funeral services were held from the Church of the Most Holy Redeemer last Tuesday morning at ten o'clock, and was largely attended. The following grandchildren acted as pallbearers: Frank and John Janovsky, Joseph and Frank Galler, Henry Danberry and Joseph Beran. Those who attended the funeral from a distance were: Mr. and Mrs. Frank Janovsky, of South Bend, Nebraska; Frank and James Dusbabek of Morristown, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Martin Janovsky of New Prague and Mrs. Paul Faschnat of Madison Lake. We extend heartfelt sympathy to the sorrowing relatives.
