Son of Harry B. and Julia Batten Karnes; brother of Ray, Joe, Ina, and Dea. He married Dorothy C. Arduser December 28, 1927 at Yankton, South Dakota. They were the parents of two sons, Robert Lee and Donald R.. In 1930, the family farmed at Galena, Dixon County, Nebraska.
