Excerpts from Obituary: Services for Dea Karnes, 81, Spirit Lake, Iowa will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church with Rev. Duane Marburger officiating. Burial will be in the Concord Cemetery. Visitation...at Shumacher Funeral Home in Laurel...Mr. Karnes died Monday Jan. 10, 1994, at Dickinson County Hospital in Spirit Lake, Iowa. He...son of Harry and Julia (Batten) Karnes...attended School District 30 in Dixon County...farmed with his father and they owned and operated a threshing machine. He did custom corn picking with one of the first machines in the area. He married Viola Lena Rasmussen of West Point, Nebraska May 15, 1937. She died January 14, 1969. He married Thelma Siverston September 28, 1974 at the First Lutheran Church in Allen. He retired in 1979. Survivors include his wife Thelma of Spirit Lake, Iowa, two sons, Keith Karnes of Spirit Lake and Douglas Karnes of Melvin, Iowa; one daughter, Mrs. Douglas Stanwick of Sioux City, Iowa; one stepson, Rodney Siverston of South Sioux City; eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; one sister Ina Karnes Fletcher Rieth of Wayne. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, his first wife and three brothers and one granddaughter.
