Bio

Homer Vester Shawn was born on 15 April 1905 in Alvord, Wise County, Texas to Riley L. Doc and Nora Isabelle Head Shown. There were five siblings in his family and they were William Edgar "Ed", Oscar Ellis, John Carl, Clarence Houston (died as small child), and Florence Myrtle Shown (died as small child). The surname began as Shown in Tennessee, but by 1900 those in Tennessee began to spell the surname as Shoun (rhymes with hound) and those that had moved west continued to use the surname Shown. Then about 1930 the surname Shown used by those who had moved to Texas and Oklahoma, and who were descendants of Andrew Baker Shown began to use the surname as Shawn. Riley Shown's brother moved to Idaho ca 1919 and continued to use the surname Shown, but Riley's name on his death certificate is Shawn. Homer Vester Shawn married Eva Lee Sims on 30 March 1928 in Fletcher, Comanche County, Oklahoma. Eva Lee Sims was one of the step-daughters of Homer's brother William Edgar Shawn. There were six children born of their union. A living daughter, Richard, Delbert Neal, Harold Vester, Evalyn (died as an infant), and Robert Dale Shawn. Homer Vester Shawn died on 25 May 1961 in Tulare County, California and was buried in the Woodville Cemetery. Three sons are buried in Oregon, one in California and the daughter in Arizona. His wife Eva Lee Sims Shawn is buried in Oregon.
