MAX FRANK WALLA, 74, passed away on Tuesday, January 20, 2004, after an extended illness of several years. He died peacefully in his sleep at home where he wanted to be. Max was born in LaGrange, Texas on May 5, 1928 to Anton and Theresia Ripper Walla. He was the ninth of fourteen children. During World War II, the family moved to Houston and shortly thereafter Max went to work for Union Pacific Railroad. After 10 1/2 years, he went to work for Gulf Oil Corporation and retired in 1983 after 27 years of service. He is survived by Evelyn, his devoted wife of 33 years; his children, Ronald W. Walla and wife Sandra, Debbie Evans and husband Bob, Shawn K. Walla and wife Gina, and stepchildren, Evalyn Durigan and husband Dan, Carole Mehau and husband McWarren, John Cavanaugh and wife Diana, Patricia Mathis and husband Michael. Stepdaughter Cynthia Wheeler passed away on September 11, 2003 and is survived by husband Bill. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren, plus one great great grandchild. Also surviving are four sisters and many other loving relatives and friends. The family will be present for visitation on Thursday, January 22, 2004 at 6:00pm followed by a Rosary at 7:00pm at Howard-Glendale Funeral Home, 1015 Federal Road, Houston, Texas. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00am on Friday, January 23, 2004 at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 1705 8th Street, Galena Park, Texas. Immediately following, interment will be at Forest Park Lawndale, 6900 Lawndale, Houston, Texas. Mr. Walla's grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
