Evelyn Vlasta Walla, 88, went to be with the Lord on January 23, 2012. She was born on the family farm in Williamson County on March 15, 1923. Her parents Joe and Emilie Kotrla Jirasek were descended from early Texas Czech pioneers. Evelyn attended public schools including two one room school houses and Taylor High School. She was a straight A student and took great pride in her academics prowess. She married C.C. Cavanaugh, Jr. and they later moved to Houston. This union would produce five children, Evalyn Durigan, Cynthia Wheeler, Carole Mehau, John Cavanaugh and Patricia Mathis. All but Cynthia would survive their mother. In the early 1950's, Evelyn went to work as a typist at the mortgage banking firm of T.J. Bettis Company. Her strong work ethic and intelligence enabled her to rise through the ranks to become Vice Prsident of Lomis and Nettleton West, as the company became known. She was instrumental in writing the language used in word processing. Evelyn relished her work in the business world. She was an active church member most of her life having been baptized and confirmed in the Brethen Church in Taylor, Texas. Evelyn was a Sunday school teacher and deacon of the Peace Presbyterian Church in Jacinto City. She later joined and attended Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. Her faith sustained her all her life. Evelyn was married a second time in 1971 to Max Walla. She and Max would raise his youngest son, Shawn Walla. Evelyn and Max would enjoy 33 years together until his death. She loved music and was active for many years in the S.P.J.S.T. Lodge No. 88, Czech Choral Club. Evelyn and Max enjoyed attending dances at the Lodge and could often be found on the dance floor waltzing or doing the polka. Evelyn was an excellent seamtress who fashioned many beautiful garments for herself and her family. She delighted in flowers and nature and implanted this love into her children. Evelyn was a gracious loving woman whose quick wit and sense of humor will be missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Gladys Jones and Jerry Jirasek. Evelyn leaves a very large family behind to cherish her memories; her four children and their spouses, three step children and their families, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, assorted cousins, nephews, nieces and one aunt Dora Wilson. Visitation with the family will be on Saturday, February 4, 2012, from 10:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M. at Advantage Howard-Glendale Funeral Home, 1015 Federal Road, where funeral services will be held at 12:00 P.M. Interment will follow in Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery.
