John Joseph Rerich son of Emil and Emilie Rerich.John Joseph Rerich married Florence Louise Kusey on June 18,1951. Children John J. Rerich,Jr. Charles Wayne Rerich 3 grandchildren 2 great-grandchildren _____________________ Rerich John J. "Johnnie" Rerich Sr.,86,of Weimar,passed away Feb.27 at Citizens Memorial Hospital in Victoria. He was born July 15,1920 in Weimar to Emil and Emilia (Heger) Rerich. He served in the U.S. Army 4th Infantry Division during World War II.He was the lone soldier from Weimar to survive the July 6,1944 D-Day invasion of France.His military record is one of outstanding and interesting service.He entered the army in 1942 for basic training at Camp Wolters then went on to the 4th Infantry for training in Georgia,New Jersey and Florida.His unit was sent overseas to Liverpool,England in January 1944 to await the invasion of France.He landed on Utah Beach in Normandy,France and came ashore under enemy German fire and miraculously escaped injury in a battle known for its extremely high casualties.The 4th,commanded by General Omar Bradley,fought their way through France and were in Germany when the war ended on May 7,1945.Among the medals Rerich received were the Good Conduct Medal,Expert Rifleman and The Northern France Campaign. Upon his return to Weimar,he found work briefly as a carpenter and on Feb.10,1951 went to work for MG Feed where he remained for 50 years.He married Florence Louise Kusey on June 18,1951. Funeral services were conducted March 1 at St. Michael Catholic Church in Weimar with Father Bily officiating.Interment followed at St. Michael Catholic Cemetery with full military honors. Pallbearers were Paul Rerich,Vernon Rerich,Gregory Kloesel,Perry Kloesel,Pat Hluchanek,Henry Hudec Jr.,Dale Rerich and Anton Kubesch. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael Catholic Church in Weimar of Parkview Manor in Weimar. (condensed) Colorado County Citizen,March 7,2007
