Bio

Martha Mary Prnka, 86, of West, passed away Monday, Jan. 3, 2011, in Waco. A rosary will be recited and Mass of Christian Burial celebrated 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption with the Rev. Will Straten as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. The family will receive visitors 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home. Martha was born in Williamson County, Texas, to the late Willie and Julie Anastasia (Dirba) Stojanik. She attended schools in Granger. On December 27, 1942, Martha was united in marriage to Harvey Julius Prnka Jr. in West. She was a homemaker and helped to make parachutes for all the soldiers during World War II. She loved spending time with her family and enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing, baking kolaches, and canning. Martha was a longtime faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West. She was also a member of the S.P.J.S.T. Lodge #6 in Cottonwood and K.J.Z.T. St. Ludmila Society #11 in West. She was preceded in death by her husband on April 13, 2009; a great grandson, Stephen Hernandez; and a son-in-law, Lawrence Ondrej. Survivors include daughters, Joan Ondrej, Dorothy Straten and husband, David, and Linda Straten and husband, Robert, all of West, Alice Powell and husband, Randall, of Allen, and Carolyn Munn and husband, Bob, of Waco; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friend.
