Bio

STRATFORD - Baskin Brown, 83, died Thursday, Jan. 22, 2004, in Amarillo. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in First Baptist Church of Stratford with the Rev. Brent Farney, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Stratford Cemetery by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mr. Brown was born Oct. 23, 1920, in Dallam County to Joe and Timmie Brown. He married Betty, his wife of 63 years, on Oct. 19, 1941. He served in the Army Air Corps as a radio operator in the Pacific Theater on the island of Iwo Jima. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Marijo Haile; and a great-granddaughter, Claire Austin. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Joe R. Brown and wife, Rose, of El Paso and Jim Bob Brown and wife, Patty, of Stratford; his grandchildren, Blair Brown of Panhandle, Carrie Austin of Dallas, Ashley Brown and Caleb Brown of Stratford and Joe S. Brown of El Paso; his great-grandchildren, Caroline Austin, Carson Baskin Brown, and Analee Austin; two nieces; two nephews; and several loving cousins. Pallbearers will be Jack Haile, Steve Baskin, Gary Hudson, Jack Gore, Doug McBryde, Mike Boyd, Lynn Allen and Terry Duffy. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Reed, Bill Pendleton, T.F. Baskin, Jack Dettle, Alfred Pronger, Rex Williams, Rex Christian, Greg Sherwood, Jerry Behrens, Vernon Powers, Robert McGinnis, George Allen, David Romero, Henry Ohara and Humberto "Tito" Silva.
