Bio

Betty Brown – 84 passed away Thursday, November 8, 2007 in Stratford, Texas. Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, November 13, 2007 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Jason Stone, pastor of the church officiating, assisted by Rev. Allan Cartrite. Burial will be in Stratford Cemetery by Morrison Funeral Directors. Betty was born May 20, 1923 in Sherman County, Texas to Albert Lee and Bessie Shaw. She was the salutatorian of her 1940 Stratford High School graduating class. She attended Business College in Amarillo. On October 19, 1941 she married James Baskin Brown who preceded her in death on January 22, 2004. The couple were married 63 years and epitomized true love. Today, they are waltzing in heaven. Betty and Baskin owned and operated Brown's Meat Locker from 1955 to 2006. They worked steadfastly side by side and built a very successful business that served an extensive trade area. They had many cherished employees and customers. Betty was a life time resident of Stratford and a member of First Baptist Church and the Priscilla Sunday School Class. She was a Sunday school teacher for many years and enjoyed the young children she taught. She was a member of the Prospectus Study Club, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Sherman County Older Texans and the Texas Cowbelles. Betty was a very elegant lady. She was honored to have been the "First Lady" of the American Association of Meat Processors in 1984. She was preceded in death by her parents and stepfather, John K. Shaw; nephew, Robert Evan Lee and great-granddaughter Claire Austin. Survivors include; sons, Joe R. Brown and wife, Rose of El Paso, Jim Bob Brown and wife Patty of Stratford; brother, Robert E. Lee of Escondido, Calif; grandchildren, Blair Brown of Panhandle, Carrie Austin of Dallas, Ashley Brown of Miami, Caleb Brown of Lincoln, Neb, Joe S. Brown of El Paso; great-grandchildren, Caroline Austin, Carson Baskin Brown and Analee Austin. She also is survived by two nieces, one nephew and several loving cousins.
