Bio

Timmie Baskin Brown, 103, died Monday, July 1, 2002, in Amarillo. Services will be at 3 p.m. today in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Brent Farney, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Stratford Cemetery by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mrs. Brown was born Aug. 23, 1898, in Donley County. She was a resident of Sherman County since April 1903. She grew to womanhood in the Ruby community, attending the Ruby School, Stratford High School, State Normal School for Teachers at Denton and West Texas College in Canyon. She married Joe Brown on Nov. 22, 1917, in Stratford. She taught school at Indiana Colony School in Dallam County, Stevens, Palo Duro School and in Stratford grade and junior high school, all located in Sherman County. She was associated with her husband in his business for many years. She was a life member of First Baptist Church and taught there many years. She received many awards and honors during her lifetime including Distinguished Service Award given by Women's Forum, Citizen of the Year and Old Timer's Queen. One of the things she enjoyed in her later years was authoring a column, Timi's Tidbits, for the weekly paper. She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, Marijo Brown Haile; and a great-great-granddaughter, Claire Austin. Survivors include a son, James Baskin Brown and wife, Betty , of Stratford; five grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren.; and a host of relatives and friends.
