John Vernon Russell Sr. (1923 - 2012) John Vernon Russell Sr., 88, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2012. Funeral: 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Moore Funeral Home, Arlington. Interment: 2 p.m. Monday in Waco Memorial Park, Waco. Visitation: The family will receive visitors 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. John was a member of Fielder Road Baptist Church and a member of the Herring Masonic Lodge in Waco. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. John later retired from Exxon as a salesman for 34 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Rosa Lee Russell; and his brother, James Russell. Survivors: He is survived by his wife, Juanita Edwards Russell; sons, John V. Russell Jr. of Whitney and Charles Russell of Spring; daughter, Peggy Johnston of Arlington; sisters, Vineta Melton, and Treyonne and J.W. Cowan; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Juanita Russell of Arlington went home to Jesus on July 4, 2020. Born in Waco TX to Ray S. and Minnie Estelle (Funderburk) Edwards. Juanita's first husband, Elbie Gunter was killed in action in 1944 in France during WWII. She then married John Russell in 1946. They were married until his death in 2012. She was a long time member of Fielder Road Baptist Church in Arlington. Preceded in death by her parents, husband John Russell Sr, son John Russell Jr, and 2 grandchildren John and David Johnston. Juanita is survived by her daughter Peggy Johnston of Arlington, son Charles Russell of Spring, grandchildren Laura Lambeth, James Johnston, Leslie Dowdle, Amy Russell, John Curtis Russell, and 4 great grandchildren, other family and friends, all who will miss her deeply. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ - Juanita and Elbie Lee Jr had 1 daughter, Peggy Estelle Gunter - born Dec 21, 1944 in McLennan County, TX after her father was KIA in France
