Vineta Irene Melton, 97, of Mesquite passed away on Thursday, January 18, 2018. She was born in Oglesby on July 15, 1920 to the late James Robert and Rosa Lee Guthrie Russell. She attended school in Moody, TX and worked for the Dallas County school system. Mrs. Vineta enjoyed arts and crafts and quilting for children in the hospital. Mrs. Melton is survived by her daughters Sharon Harris, Pamela Wilks Caraway and Marcia Vessels and a son in law Alan Coker, 14 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren. Besides her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Willie Rufus Melton, 2 daughters Deborah Gail Coker and Brenda Joy Meadows, 2 grandsons Dillon Erby "Widdy" Elizaldi and Antonio Cervantes and 3 son in laws Dan Harris and Sonny Wilks and Huey Meadows. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Laurel Land Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at Laurel Land Memorial Park at 12:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22478 Oklahoma City, OK 73123.
