Bio
CDP Sister Dorothy Ann Vrba, 87, a Sister of Divine Providence, entered eternal life peacefully on Thursday, February 22, 2007. She was born in Tours, Texas on March 13, 1919 and became a Sister of Divine Providence at 19 years of age. Sister Dorothy Ann began her ministerial life at St. Mary's School in Ponca City, Oklahoma in 1938. In 1944, she moved back to San Antonio where she taught high school and college level classes for 50 years. These were at St. Mary's High School, Our Lady of the Lake High School and Our Lady of the Lake University. Some of her fondest memories were teaching the girls and taking care of the boarders at Our Lady of the Lake High School. In 1994, she retired from teaching, but remained active at the University as a math tutor for the Learning Center and as a teacher's aide in the math department. Sister Dorothy Ann is survived by her sister, Marcella Scalf; brother, Ray Vrba and wife, Helen; sisters-in-law, Ruby Vrba and Georgia Juricek; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Agnes and Frank Vrba; brothers, Victor Vrba and wife, Carrie, Ernest Vrba and wife, Elvera, Frank Vrba and Andrew Vrba; and sisters, Sister Mary Martha Vrba, CDP and Sister Mary Theonilla Vrba, CDP. The Rosary is Sunday, February 25, 2007 at 4 p.m., and the Wake is at 6:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday,February 26, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. All services will be in Annunciation Chapel at Our Lady of the Lake Convent Center.
