Sister M. Martha Vrba, 89, a Sister of Divine Providence, passed away on Thursday, August 5, 2004 in McCullough Hall Nursing Center at Our Lady of the Lake Convent. She was born in Tours, TX on October 17, 1914 to Francis Joseph and Agnes Vrba, and received the baptismal name Mary. She entered the Congregation of Divine Providence on May 31, 1930 and became a novice on June 21, 1934 at which time she received the name Sister M. Martha. She made her first profession of vows as a Sister of Divine Providence on June 22, 1935. Sister Martha began her ministerial life in elementary education in New Braunfels, TX at Saints Peter and Paul School. Sister Martha also taught at Moye Military School, St. Mary's Elementary School, Providence High School and St. Anthony's Elementary School. She is survived by her siblings, Sister Dorothy Ann Vrba, Marcella Scalf and Ray Vrba. Services for Sister Martha Vrba: Rosary on Sunday, August 8, 2004 at 4:00 P.M. and Wake at 6:30 P.M. The Funeral Mass is Monday, August 9, 2004 at 10:30 A.M. All Services will take place in Annunciation Chapel at Our Lady of the Lake Convent Center.
