Irene A. Knopik, 92, of Fullerton died Thursday, Dec. 29, 2011, at Golden LivingCenter in Fullerton. Irene was born west of Fullerton in Nance County on Dec. 16, 1919, to Vincent and Hedwig (Zelasney) Torson. Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil. Survivors are: daughter and son-in-law, Karon and Dan Horn of Fullerton; son and daughter-in-law, Garry and Jackie Knopik of Omaha; brother and two sister in-law, Art and Delores Torson of St. Edward and Shirley Torson of Schuyler; sisters and a brother-in-law, Viola Loesch of Alma and Tootie and Wayne Davidson of Maxwell; grandchildren, Shannon, Tanya and Dani Horn , Heather Zebley and Ryon Knopik; great-grandchildren, Paige and Cole Zebley and Kierian Knopik; and stepgreat-grandchildren, Ashlynn and Kinley Carpenter. Irene grew up in Nance County and attended country schools. On Nov. 20, 1946, she married Virgil Knopik at St. Edward Catholic Church in St. Edward. They made their home in Fullerton. She worked at Condreray Tavern, Strawberry Patch, Gambles Store and the Fullerton Livestock Cafe in Fullerton for many years. Virgil passed away Feb. 13, 2009. She remained living in Fullerton. Virgil was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, St. Ann's Altar Society and the American Legion Auxiliary. Irene enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, cooking and embroidering. Irene was preceded in death by: sister, Frances Torson, and brother, Adam Torson. Published in The Grand Island Independent on December 31, 2011
