Donald Ray "Don" Ragland, 77, died Wed, Dec 21, 2011 in Abilene. Funeral service will be held at 3 pm Fri, Dec 23, 2011 in the Melton-Kitchens Funeral Home Chapel of Memories with Rev. W.C. Roach officiating. Interment will follow in the Breckenridge Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Melton-Kitchens Funeral Home. Don was born on Jan 7, 1934 in Young Co., TX to Sam and Easter Timmons Ragland. He attended schools in Tonk Valley and Graham. He married Shirley LaDell Barton Dec 21, 1957, in Graham and adopted her children, Jeff Ragland and Cindy Lynch. Later he married Sarah Spain, 29 Jan 1973, Stephens Co., TX In 1991 he married Shirley Cummins and she preceded him in death on Jan 30, 2009. He was a former Stephens County Sheriff and was an oilfield pumper. He was also preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Bob and Edgar Ragland, and sister, Dorthia Ragland Hartless. Don will be remembered for his friendliness and his quick wit. He was a member of the Apostolic Lighthouse Church and his church family was near and dear to him. Surviving Don are his sister, Ima Lee Ragland Hawkins; children, Jeff Ragland and Cindy Lynch; step-sons, Jamie and Jeff Nettles; sister-in-law, Alene Ragland, several grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
