Mass of Christian Burial for James "Harold" Haney, 92, long time Perkins County, SD farmer and rancher will be Friday, December 19th, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Bison, SD. Fr. Brian Fawcett will officiate and burial with full military honors will follow at the Hettinger Cemetery in Hettinger, ND. Visitations will be from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 18th at the Evanson Jensen Funeral Home in Hettinger and one hour prior to the mass on Friday morning at the church in Bison. JAMES HAROLD HANEY was born on October 3rd, 1916 to John and Minne (Powers) Haney near Rising, Nebraska. Harold was raised there on the farm in Nebraska. During World War II, Harold served his country in the US Army Air Corp where he developed his life long love of flying. Harold continued to maintain his own aircraft all of his life. He and his two brothers started custom combining after the war which brought him to Prairie City, SD where he bought land, met and then married Dorothy Molitor on September 30th, 1957. Harold lovingly cared for his wife until her death in December of 2005. He loved to play cards, was a loving and generous man who will be missed by his family and friends. Harold Haney passed away at the Western Horizons Care Center in Hettinger, ND on Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008. Left to mourn his passing are his three step children, Edward (Virginia) Hoff, San Diego, CA, Rea (Howard) Alexander, Spokane, WA and Eileen Engraf, Hettinger, ND; eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and long time hired man and friend, Alan Burrer. Harold was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Dorothy and his nine siblings. Arrangements are entrusted with the Evanson Jensen Funeral Home in Hettinger, ND.
