Dorothy Jane Carroll Fiedler of Friendswood, Texas, was born in Houston, Texas, on Nov. 16, 1930, the middle daughter of Rufus and Theresa Carroll. Dorothy was a graduate of John H. Reagan High School in Houston, where she was a member of the Reagan Red Coats Drum & Bugle Corps. She earned her B.A. and M.B.A. degrees from Sam Houston State Teachers College (now Sam Houston State University), and married Erwin Charles Fiedler on May 31, 1951, at Baptist Temple in the Houston Heights. The Fiedlers were married more than 60 years. She and Erwin moved to Friendswood, Texas, in 1972, and Dorothy lived there until her death. Dorothy was a high school teacher for more than 30 years, and taught students in the fields of business, mathematics and drivers education. She was a life member of The Daughters of the Republic of Texas and a faithful member of Friendswood Baptist Church. Dorothy was a lifelong learner who enjoyed reading and keeping up with current events, and was a faithful volunteer at Friendswood Public Library. She was an accomplished cook as well as an avid traveler, accompanying her family on trips across the United States, Canada, Mexico, Europe and Asia. Dorothy died Dec. 5, 2011, at the age of 81. She was preceded in death by her parents and by her older sister, Ruth Carroll Hughes.
