Herald Coaster, December 30, 2002: Funeral services for Eddie S. Vacek, 83, of Rosenberg, beloved father, grandfather and brother, will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31 in the chapel of Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home, 3900 B.F. Terry Blvd. in Rosenberg. Father Dan Warden will officiate the services. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Rosenberg. Visitation will being at 6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 30 in the chapel of Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home with a rosary at 7 p.m. Serving as pallbearers will be Jonathan Vacek, Phillip Vacek, Steven Vacek, Gary Enax, Bart Carroll and Charles Parr. Eddie was born Oct. 6, 1919 in Taiton, Wharton County to S.J. (Jerry) Vacek and Mary Gurecky Vacek. He passed away Dec. 28, 2002 in Richmond. He was raised on the family farm in Fairchilds and lived his entire adult life in Rosenberg. Eddie was a World War II Veteran and served in the U.S. Army. He was a life time member of V.F.W. Post 3903 and American Legion Post 271. He was the owner and operator of The City Club in Rosenberg for many years and retired in 1986. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Mensik Vacek, and his parents, S.J. (Jerry) and Mary Vacek. Eddie is survived by his son, Jimmie Vacek of Rosenberg; his daughter, Theresa Dixon and her husband, Joel of Houston; his stepsons, John Vacek and his wife, LaNeva of Galveston and Daniel Vacek of Rosenberg; his brother, Louis Vacek and his wife, Rose of Port Arthur and his sister, Martha Deckert of Rosenberg. He is also survived by his 12 grandchildren, six great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home, (281) 341-8800.
