Oakley Graphic, Jan. 16, 2002 Edward V. "Ed" Horinek, 80, Page City, died on Tuesday, January 8, 2002 at Citizens Medical Center, Colby. Ed was born on February 28, 1921 to Anton and Frances Vrbas Horinek in Newkirk, OK. He married Florence M. Kantor on August 12, 1948 at Atwood. He moved from Atwood area in 1947, then moved to McDonald fro a short time and then moved to rural Winona in 1956 and then to Page City in 1961. Ed was a retired farmer and mechanic. He owned and operated an auto mechanic shop in Page City and later in Winona. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Oakley; member of Sacred Heart Church, Colby; Past member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church, Sharon Springs; 3rd Degree member of Knights of Columbus Counciol 5366, Sharon Springs; World War II Veteran; Lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars #2981 Oakley, where he served as company commander for several years; member of the American Legion Post 0363 of Colby; and Golden Gloves Boxing Association. Survivors include his wife Florence of the home; sons Gary and Tony; daughters Robbi Kraus, Shelley Brock, Nancy Horning; one brother Elmer; one sister Trudy Frick; and a mother-in-law Agnes Kantor; 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Relatives who preceded him in death were his parents; brothers Tom, Bernard and Richard Horinek; sisters Anna Vap, Lisa Vap, Rose Tubbs, Alice Standbaugh, and Mary Schwemim and a grandson Jeffery Kraus. Funeral service was held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 12 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Colby with Fr. Galen Long and Fr. Roger Meitl officiating. Burial was in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Colby with Military Graveside Rites by Oakley V.F.W. and American Legion.
