Bio
Eugene William "Gene" Kratky was born October 20, 1928 in Prague, Nebraska the son of Louis and Marie (Frohner) Kratky. Eugene passed away Saturday, January 18, 2013 at Heritage of Emerson, Emerson, Nebraska In 1936, Gene's family moved to Thurston, Nebraska where he attended Thurston (NE.) High School graduating in 1945. He farmed with his father and brother until leaving for the United States Army, where he served in Korea. After the war he returned to Thurston, Nebraska where he continued to farm with his dad. In 1960 he married Lois Breitkreutz. To this Union five children were born: Connie, Cynthia, Sharon, Nancy and Robert. The couple made their home in Thurston, Nebraska. Lois died on December 27, 1994. Gene was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, the Thurston American Legion, and Pender, Nebraska VFW and a retired member of the Thurston (NE.) Volunteer Fire Department. Gene is survived by: children, Connie and husband Clark Mohlfeld of Wisner, Nebraska, Sharon Kratky of Omaha, Nebraska, Nancy and husband Terry Tyrrell of North Bend, Nebraska and Robert and wife Tammy Kratky of Dakota City Nebraska, grandchildren, Brandon and Dalton Mohlfeld, Cassandra and Adrienne Tyrrell and Michelle and Nolan Kratky; sister Leona and husband Glen Doupnik of Pender, Nebraska; sister- in- laws; Burla Dean Renz of Pender, Nebraska, Jeannie Kratky of Pender, Nebraska, Joyce Puls, of Des Moines, Iowa and Jackie Posekany of Des Moines, Iowa and a host of family and friends. Gene was preceded in death by: wife; Lois Kratky; parents, Louis and Marie Kratky; brothers, Leroy and Louis Kratky and infant daughter, Cynthia Kratky. Mass of Christian Burial was Thursday, January 23, 2014 at 10:30 at St. John's Catholic Church, Pender, Nebraska; with Father Gerald Leise as officiator. Burial with Military Honors was in Rosehill Cemetery, Pender, Nebraska.
