Bio

Leona M. Doupnik, of Pender, Nebraska passed away Monday, February 3, 2014 at Heritage of Emerson, Emerson, Nebraska. Leona was born June 18, 1926 to Louis, Sr. and Marie (Frohner) Kratky in Prague, Nebraska. The family moved to Thurston, Nebraska in 1936 where she graduated from Thurston (NE.) High School in 1943. On February 18, 1952, she married Edwin Vraspir at St. John's Catholic Church, Pender, Nebraska. To this union, seven children were born; Donald, Karen, Glen, twins Gary and Gene and twins Jim and Joe. Edwin passed away in October of 1972. Leona married Glen Doupnik on December 16, 1982 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Emerson, Nebraska. Leona was a member of St. John's Catholic Church and Alter Society, Pender, Nebraska. She was the co-owner of Thrifty Market, Emerson, Nebraska from 1954 until 1983. She was a wonderful baker and enjoyed sewing and dancing. She especially loved spending time with her family and grandchildren. Leona is survived by: husband, Glen Doupnik of Pender, Nebraska; sons, Glen and Connie Vraspir of Emerson, NEebraska, Gene and Judi Vraspir of Emerson, Nebraska, Gary and Jeanne Vraspir of Belgrade, Montana, Jim Vraspir of Belgrade, Montana, Joe and Jane Vraspir of Eagle, Nebraska; daughter, Karen and Robert Oetken, of Lincoln, Nebraska; sisters-in-law, Burla Dean Renz of Pender, Nebraska, Jeannie Kratky of Pender, Nebraska and Georgian Vraspir of Emerson, Nebraska; 11 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren and a host of family and friends. Leona is preceded in death by: parents,; husband, Edwin Vraspir; infant son, Donald E. Vraspir and brothers, Leroy, Louis, Jr., Eugene Kratky. Mass of Christian Burial was Friday, February 7, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Emerson, Nebraska. Father Gerald Leise was officiator. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery in Emerson, Nebraska.
