Bio

Elsie A. Stava, 90, of Grand Island died Sunday, Nov. 13, 2011, at Wood River Good Samaritan Society. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Cathedral in Grand Island. The Rev. Richard Piontkowski will officiate. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Elsie was born Oct. 13, 1921, at Dwight to John and Mary (Divis) Sisel. Elsie was welcomed into heaven by her husband, Leonard and an infant son, Larry. Survivors of the immediate family include a son, David Stava of Grand Island; a daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Allan Vieth of Grand Island; two brothers, Louie Sisel of Lincoln and Leonard Sisel of Dwight; two sisters, Gladyce Jakub of Lincoln and Irene Vrbka of Bossier City, La. Also left to cherish her memory are two grandchildren and spouses, Paul and Brittany Vieth of Grand Island and John Vieth of Grand Island. Elsie was raised on the family farm with two sisters and three brothers. Elsie attended school in Butler County. She married Leonard Stava on Sept. 30, 1947. They made their home in Grand Island where Elsie was a homemaker and also worked in the Barr Middle School Cafeteria for 12 years, retiring in May of 1988. Elsie was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral, and a past member of St. Mary's Cathedral Altar Society. She also enjoyed sewing, baking, and especially spending time with her grandson's and her family. Elsie was also welcomed into heaven by her parents and a brother, Ray Sisel. Published in The Grand Island Independent on November 15, 2011
