Michael Flakus was born near Tarnov, Austria, September 20, 1848 and departed this life at his home at Elyria, Nebraska, March 27, 1922 aged 73 years, 6 months and 7 days. He came to America in 1875 and settled near Columbus, Nebraska. Later he removed to Atkinson and in 1890 came to Valley county settling on a farm six miles west of Elyria. A few years later he retired and moved to Elyria which has been his home since. He was married to Marie Koziol in 1869 and to this union 14 children were born, five of whom died in infancy and one daughter died at the age of 18 years from pneumonia. He leaves to mourn his going his loving wife and eight children, Mrs. Joseph Ciemny of Elyria, Frank Flakus of Burwell, Henry Flakus of near Elyria, Thomas Flakus of Burwell, Mrs. Chas. Ciochon of Geranium, Mrs. John Kusek of Columbus, Mrs. Frank Blaha, Jr.; of Ord and Joseph who is with the American army in Coblenz, Germany. There are also 35 grand children and 3 great grand children besides many other relatives and a host of friends. The funeral is being held today at Elyria and interment is in St. Mary's cemetery at that place. Rev. Father Kolaski officiating. In the passing of Mr. Flakus his family has lost a kind and loving father and the community at Elyria has lost a friend and a familiar figure who will be greatly missed for a long time.
