Rosa Margaret Haney was a daughter of William Spears "Billy" Haney (31 July 1803-10 Sept. 1884) and his wife Sarah Elizabeth "Bettie" Marsh (16 May 1812-13 Feb. 1872), of near Marsville, Union Co., NC. Rosa married James Washington Kiker (6 March 1853-23 June 1925) around 1873. He was a son of Alexander Kiker (1805-1865) and his second wife Lucinda Antoinette "Lucy" O'Neal (c.1822-aft. 1880), of Anson Co., NC. Rosa and James had three children: William Alexander Kiker (30 May 1874-5 April 1925, m. Culia Ann Taylor), Nancy Jane Kiker (28 June 1877-7 Sept. 1966, m. Goerge Wiley Bowers) and Levi Washington Kiker (8 Jan. 1879-24 March 1919, m. Jennie Thomas). From the PEE DEE HERALD, Wadesboro, Anson County, NC, Wednesday, August 20, 1879- "Polkton Argus: On Thursday afternoon the wife of Mr. James KIKER who lives about two miles from this place, was killed by lightning. She was sitting on the floor near the fireplace, when the lightning struck the top of the chimney, running down on the side where she was sitting and killed her instantly. One of her children was asleep on the floor and did not even awake." From http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~jganis/unionco/newspapers1879b.html I am not certain if Rosa was buried at Hopewell Church, where her husband was later buried or at her parents' family cemetery at Marshville, or at some other location.
