US Congressman. Elected as a Whig to represent Georgia At-Large in the Twenty-Sixth and Twenty-Seventh Congresses, he served from 1839 until his death. Born in Savannah, Georgia, he was the nephew of Congressman John Habersham and Postmaster General Joseph Habersham (the namesake of Georgia's Habersham County). He graduated from Princeton College in 1810 and pursued a law career in his hometown until 1835, when he moved to Clarkesville. Habersham was a US attorney in the early 1820s and served briefly as Georgia Attorney General before his election to Congress. He died in Clarkesville. There is a cenotaph in his memory at Congressional Cemetery in Washington, DC.
