April 13, 1932 - October 22, 2011 Melvin Layne Ethridge, 79, of Batesville, died Saturday at White River Medical Center. Born April 13, 1932 in West Texas, he was the son of Melvin and Maudie Cooper Ethridge. He served in the U. S. Navy during the Korean War. For many years, he worked for U.S.D.A. at the Con-Agra plant. He also worked for Lyon College and the White River Regional Housing Authority. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and his dogs. He was a member of the North Heights Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife, Louise Queary Ethridge of the home; two sons: Mike Ethridge of Little Rock and Alan Nyitrai of Bethesda; one daughter, Becky LaBauve of Batesville; three grandsons: Jack LaBauve of Batesville, Shane Ethridge of Hot Springs, Brandon Ethridge of Little Rock; one granddaughter: Sarah LaBauve of Boston, Massachusetts; and two great-granddaughters: Sophie Jane Ethridge of Hot Springs and Robin LaBauve of Bethesda. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, one sister, and two infant grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Chinquapin Church of Christ with Keith Harris officiating. Burial will be in Campground Cemetery under the direction of Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Batesville. Pallbearers will be Brad Fairchild, Calvin Fairchild, Jerry White, Randy Rowe, Greg Queary, and Kenny Queary.
