Johnnie J. Turek, 86, of Ulysses, died October 12, 2011 at St. Joseph Villa in David City. Johnnie was born Janaury 12, 1925 near Bee, Nebraska to Edward A. and Leopoldina ( Leona Makes) Turek. Johnnie attended country schools and graduated from Ulysses High School, and later attended the Lincoln School of Commerce. He was a lifelong Ulysses area resident. He farmed south of Ulysses and later moved into town, where he took care of his mother. He had worked in the warehouse at Ace Hardware in Lincoln for many years. He was inducted into the United States Navy on October 14, 1943. Johnnie served in WWII aboard the U.S.S. Good Hue. He was wounded in action on April 2, 1945. Johnnie was Honorably discharged May 11, 1946, and was later awarded a Purple Heart. He was a member of the Seward American Legion Post 33. Johnnie enjoyed going to auctions, and also collected and repaired guns. He was preceded in death by his parents, Brothers and spouses: Edward L.(Helen), Ernest(Adeline) and Arnold(Maxine) Turek. Johnnie is survived by Nieces and spouses: Mary Jane(Dan) Hilger of Bellwood, Bernadette(Darwin) Jaster of Columbus, Beverly Ann(Roland) From of David City, Ernestine(Pat) Augustine of Columbus, Lucinda(Jay) Morrow of Wahoo, Catherine (Edward) Murphy of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, Linda Turek of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Great Nieces, Nephews and cousins.
