Graveside services were Friday, April 27, at 10:00 a.m. at the Alma Cemetery for Arnold C. Davis, 87, who died Wednesday, April 25, 1984, at the V.A. Medical Center in Grand Island, Nebr. The Rev. Tony Woodward officiated with military honors by Fay Cady Post 118 of Alma American Legion. Born at Orleans, Nebr., he enlisted in the U.S. Navy during WW I, serving from 1918-19. On September 15, 1919, he married Nina Simmons at Holdrege, Nebr. They had resided at Alma where he and his brothers operated the Davis and Sons Grocery. He had been disabled for the past 53 years. He was baptized and had been a member of the First Christian Church, Alma. Survivors include his wife, Nina, Alma; three sons, Arnold Jr., Overland Park, Kansas, Darrell of Stillwater, Minn., and Jack of Bertrand; one daughter, Mrs. William (DuReece) Gehring of Indianola, Nebr.; nine grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Archie (Sadie) Longsine of Lexington, and Mrs. Addie Calkins of Alma. He was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters. Banta-Torrey Funeral Home of Alma had charge of arrangements. A memorial fund has been established.
