Albina Cuba Swoboda Albina Francis Cuba Swoboda passed into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior on Sunday July 17, 2011. Albina was born January 25, 1915 in Taylor, Texas to the late John and Albina Jansa Cuba. She was the 7th of 13 children. She was a homemaker and active in the Victoria community. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Swoboda, Sr., and sons Allen Ray Swoboda of College Station and Norman Lee Swoboda of Victoria. She married John Swoboda, Sr. in 1934 and moved with him to Victoria, where he had recently settled to found Victoria Machine Works. During the early years in Victoria, Albina was instrumental in the success of Victoria Machine Works. At that time our country was in the midst of the Great Depression. It was difficult to pay employees during those first years building the business, so Albina opened her home to employees and friends. Not only did she provide a home for them, she washed and ironed their clothes, grew her own vegetables, tended to chickens and a milk cow, and cooked all their meals. Albina had the gift of hospitality. She was the kind of lady who would make ice tea for the city utility employees working in the street. Making people comfortable and welcome was natural for her and she was at ease with everyone she met. She could always be counted on to provide food or flowers for any occasion. Gardening was her passion and her yard was always filled with flowers. Albina was an active member of First Presbyterian Church. She sang in the choir for over 40 years and belonged to the Adelle Carsner Young Circle, Presbyterian Bible Study Small Group and W.O.W. She was a founding member of the Iris Society Garden Club, a founding member of the Victoria Czech Singers, and a past Worthy Matron of the Violet Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star in Victoria. She was an active member of the Czech Heritage Club, the Morning Study Club, the Bon Ami Home Demonstration of Texas, and the Association of Family and Community Education Club. While raising her children, she was active in Scouting, PTA, Order of DeMolay and Order of Rainbow forGirls. She enjoyed bowling, dominoes, bridge, china painting and oil painting. She traveled extensively throughout the United States, Europe and Africa and had resided in Cape Town, South Africa for a short time. She is survived by three daughters, one son, fifteen grandchildren, twenty-four great grandchildren, two sisters and one brother. A celebration of her life will be held at the Heritage Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday July 23, 2011 at 2:00 p.m., with interment at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
