On June 10, 1927 Marvin Lee Cuba was born in Taylor, Texas. The youngest of thirteen, legend has it that John Cuba and Albina (Jansa) Cuba took one look at him and agreed “this is the one we have been waiting for”. At least that is the story that Marvin would recount. Growing up and working on the family farm, he attended Columbia School southeast of Taylor. After graduating from Taylor High School, Marvin joined the navy for a four year stint as World War II was ending. Returning home, he met someone that loved dancing as much as he did. On January 19, 1957 he married Dorothy Rychlik and the dancing continued well into their latter years. No matter if it was polkas, waltzes or ballroom, they could move across the floor as if they were gliding on air. Along the way they had four children. Wayne, Mark, Monica (Johnson) and Patrick joined the dance and enjoyed the strong sense of family that was ‘Pops’ passion. Through good times and bad times, the family was taken care of by Marvin’s work ethic and the farming roots that were instilled in him as he was growing up. Whether a short stint at Alcoa or a long 33 year career at the post office, he always maintained farming as a part of his life. After farming the land adjacent to his boyhood home, he and Dorothy purchased their own farm in the late 60’s where he lived until his death on September 1, 2016. After retiring from the post office in 1992, Marvin had a lot of time for gardening, his thirteen grandchildren, his first great grandchild, dominoes, the Cowboys, and yes, dancing. Marvin is survived by his loving wife Dorothy, his four children and sister Mary York of Taylor. He was preceded in death by his parents and eleven brothers and sisters. At the age of 89, he lived a full life and passed peacefully. Funeral services will be held Tuesday September 6, 2016 at 10:00 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylor, Texas. Visitation will be held at Providence Funeral Home in Taylor Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM with rosary at 7:00PM
