Bio

VICTORIA - Surely there is a place in heaven for extraordinary Moms and 95 year old Vlasta Cuba Svoboda arrived there on January 19, 2016. She was born October 14, 1920, in Taylor, Texas, the 10th of 13 children. Nothing was more important to Vlasta than her family and extended family, and she created wonderful memories for those she loved. She and Dan liked watching the sunrise on their many early- morning fishing trips to the bay or going to the deer camps with several couples and hunting at dawn-she bagged a few. After her youngest child graduated, she did alterations for Modern Cleaners for 20 years. After she retired, she and her sisters played Bolivia and Tarock every Wednesday afternoon-laughing more than playing cards. She was a founding member of the Czech Singers of Victoria and was an active member of the Bon Ami Home Demonstration Club of Victoria; a member of Adele Carsner Women's Circle of the First Presbyterian Church, SPJST, and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary - serving in the kitchen on Bingo Nights. She is survived by daughter, Darlene J. Meyer and husband Alden Meyer of Victoria, daughter, Linda C. Wells of Lakeway; grandchildren, Emily Meyer Molder (Ron) of Victoria, Joy Elliott (Steven) of Houston, and Chad Meyer (Sarah) of Victoria; great-grandchildren, Austin, Laney and Jameson Meyer of Victoria, and Zane and Reed Elliott of Houston; sister, Mary York and brother, Marvin (Dorothy) Cuba of Taylor as well as many nieces and nephews that she held close to her heart. Vlasta was preceded in death by Daniel J. Svoboda, Sr., her loving husband of 55 years and their son, Daniel J. Svoboda, Jr.; her parents, Albina and John Cuba; sisters, Alice Kovar, Jarmilla Obermiller, Sylvia Kneip and Albina Swoboda; brothers, Daniel, Alfred, Edwin, Arnold, Johnny and Lionel Cuba. A special tribute with appreciation goes to friends and caregivers who provided her with the best quality of life possible during her last years, including Janie Lopez and the staff of Sodalis of Victoria and Hospice of South Texas. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm, Thursday, January 21, 2016 at Colonial Funeral Home. A Funeral service will be held 10:30 am, Friday, January 22, 2016 at Colonial Funeral Home with internment to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Fellowship and food will be provided at First Presbyterian Church of Victoria, Texas.
