Bio

Chris, a retired farmer, and for nearly 50 years a citizen of the Edna community, died at his home. He was born in Fayette County, Illinois and when the Civil War broke out he was to young to enlist; however, though only a lad of 16 he was accepted and did his part as a soldier the last few months of the war. (Company "C" 7th Illinois Calvery.) When he died in 1933, he was the last surviving member of the community, of that dreadful conflict, with one exception, Mr. Prentice, 89, who residesin the Voorhees' residence. He and his wife build their home, reared their large family, served their community, their church and their God for a span of 62 years. He was a member of the Elm City Christian Church, an active church man and christian of the old school. His honorable, upright, sturdy figure will be missed by a wide circle of friends. Funeral services were held in the Edna Methodist Church on Christmas Day 1933 with the Rev. Frank L. Page in charge of the service. Rev. A.A. Mason led the prayer and brought a sermon. Rev. Don Young of KGGF read the scripture.
