Funeral mass for Alfred William Pittman, 85, of Lawton, Oklahoma will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at Immaculate Conception Church, Marlow, Oklahoma with Rev. Bala Raju Pudota, pastor officiating. A wake service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home Chapel with Deacon Jim Conway, officiating. Mr. Pittman passed away on Saturday, August 2, 2014 at his home. Alfred W. Pittman was born October 23, 1928, to Anna M (Poiry) and Arthur F. Pittman, on the family homestead east of Lawton. He was the 9th and youngest child. He attended grade school at Ash Grove (one room) school, and graduated from Saint Mary's Catholic School in 1947. In 1953 he joined the United States Army, where he was a helicopter mechanic. After his military duty he started his own trucking company, working on the Turner Turnpike and Altus missile silos. On July 25, 1959 he married Patricia Ann Olson at Blessed Sacrament Church. Together they bought a farm and built a house where they resided the rest of his life. He was a finishing carpenter working at Sneed Acres. He then returned to college and graduated from SWOSU and started teaching in Lawton Public Schools. He taught his entire career, of 22 years, at Will Rogers's Elementary School teaching 5th grade. After retirement he worked for his special friend Kenneth Klein on his farms. He was an accomplished bowler, and was a member of several leagues both in Duncan and Lawton. He was a member of local and state retired educators. He was a 3rd degree Knights of Columbus, and was a member of the Wichita Mountains camping group. He was especially talented at Alfalfa Hay production. He was a lifelong member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Marlow. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Patricia, of the home; his sons and daughters in law, Chris and Rita Pittman, of Marlow, Mark and Julie Pittman, of Sapulpa; his daughter, Dolores Marie Pittman, of Grand Prairie Texas; five grandchildren, Christy Lee, Adam, Gabrielle, Ava, and Christian; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was truly last of the his breed, he was preceded in death by his parents and all of his brothers and sisters, John Pittman, Bernice Moss, Elva Lou Strechen, Lee Pittman, Jessie Dunbar, Francis Hampton, Marvin Pittman, and Dorothy Ann Carter.
