Bio

John L. Clinton Jr., 78, of Lubbock passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2011. He was born Sept. 21, 1933, in Hunt County, Texas, to John and Ester Clinton. He moved to Lubbock in 1945 and graduated from Wayland Baptist with a bachelor's degree in sociology. He served in the United States Air Force from 1951 to 1959. John was employed as a Lubbock police officer for 10 years, a juvenile officer for Lubbock County for 21 years, and served as a reserve deputy for the Lubbock Sheriff's Department for four years. He was a member of the Yellowhouse Masonic Lodge 841, and loved fishing and traveling. He was preceded in death by a son, Charles Clinton; brother, Charles Clinton; and a sister, Marcel Wynn. John is survived by his wife of 42 years, Lynette of Lubbock; son, Paul H. Clinton of Albuquerque, N.M.; three daughters, Kathy Spencer of Lubbock, Elaine Phipps of Abilene and Stacy Clinton of Lubbock; brother, James Clinton of Lubbock; a sister, Linda Ewing of Lubbock; seven grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. Graveside services to remember John's life will be held today, Sept. 14, 2011, at 3:30 p.m. in the City of Lubbock Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Sanders funeral Home. The family suggests memorial donations be made to Big Brothers-Big Sisters of Lubbock, 1706 23rd Street, Lubbock, TX 79411
