Hardcastle, N.A. "Bud" 1905 - 2003 N.A. "Bud" Hardcastle, 98, a retired railroad employee, died Monday, June 30, 2003 in Gainesville. Memorials: American Diabetes Association or charity of choice. He was born Jan. 1, 1905, in Godley, the eldest son of Samuel Lafayette and Hester Ann (Hughes) Hardcastle. A retired 30-year employee of the Santa Fe railroad, he was a stalwart of the community and surrounding areas of Godley and Johnson County, he delivered to shut-ins their mail, papers, Meals-on-Wheels, government commodities, often purchasing groceries and picking up their prescriptions, taking them to doctors appointments and any other thing he could do to help as long as his health permitted. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Godley, being the longest living member of the church when it celebrated its 125th year, in 2003. Mr. Hardcastle was awaded a plaque for this honor. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Leonara, in 1966. Survivors: One daughter, Marjorie Earle and husband, Archie, of Arlington; sons, Samuel Edward and wife, Ettie Lee, of Clovis, N.M.; Harold Gwynne and wife, Mary Anne, of Granbury; Rodney Lee and wife, Evelyn Ann, of Cleburne; Gerald Alvie, of Seattle, Wash., George Tibbs and wife, Barbara, of Gainesville; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.
