Bio

"Les Dobbins, Sr. of Coleman died Thursday (December 27, 2001) at Coleman County Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday (December 30, 2001) at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Don Northway officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow at Coleman Cemetery. "Les was born September 27, 1921 in Coleman County. He grew up in the Loss Creek community and attended school at Loss Creek. On May 25, 1942 he married Christine Mitchell in Coleman. He served in the 8th Air Corp 305th Bomber Group during World War II as a radio operator and gunner on the B-17. He flew 35 misssions over Germany and occupied France and was a recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross. Mr. Dobbins owned and operated Dobbins Service Station in Coleman for over 50 years. He was a charter member and deacon of Bible Baptist Church. "Survivors include: his wife - Christine Dobbins of Coleman; two daughters and sons-in-law - Faye and Joe Faries of Coleman and Cathye and Ted Kirby of Early; one son and daughter-in-law - Les, Jr. and Diana Dobbins of Coleman; one sister and brother-in-law - Maudie and Richard Kelley of Coleman; five grandchildren; one great-granddaughter. "Memorials can be made to Bible Baptist Church, 1015 Commercial, Coleman, Texas 76834. Family visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Saturday at Stevens Funeral Home."
