Opal Elizabeth Roberts, 84, passed away on Wednesday, August 31, 2011, at Madill, Okla. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, September 3, 2011, at Griffin-Hillcrest Chapel. Interment will follow in Provence Cemetery, Ardmore. Opal was born on October 8, 1926, in Ardmore, Okla., to James Albert Richards Sr. and Mary Jane (Royal) Richards. She married Bill Roy in August, 1945, in Ft. Worth, Texas. They were married eight years when the couple divorced. In 1955, she married Verden Roberts in Marietta, Okla., who preceded her in death in 1964. She enjoyed working as a houseparent for the Ardmore Children's Shelter for 10 years. She then went to work for the Ardmore Veteran's Center until her retirement. In her retirement, she was a teacher's aide at Madill schools. Opal was a member of the Faith Tabernacle Church of Ardmore where she was a devoted Sunday school teacher. She was a published poet and artist, creating drawings and paintings. Opal had a Christian heart and was known to open her home to many others in need. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one grandchild, Tommy Dewayne Roy; four brothers; and two sisters. Opal is survived by her daughters, Linda Kay Mitchell and husband, Greg of Ardmore and Bridgett Darlene Hill of Ardmore; sons, Ronnie Roy of Madill, Charles Roberts and wife, Margie of Lone Grove and Mark Roberts and wife, Rita of Madill; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mildred Jones of Madill and Belva Indig of Plano, Texas.
